The Clean Energy Regulator has announced that the sale of contracted ACCUs will be allowed into the open market, rather than solely the Federal Government’s Emissions Reduction Fund. The announcement came alongside the Regulator’s quarterly report which showed a massive uptake in voluntary offsets, the number of surrendered ACCU’s more than doubling in 2021 to 950,000 units. “With a growing number of private and state and territory entities choosing to offset their emissions, the increasing demand for ACCUs is expected to be approximately 1.1 million units in 2022,” the report adds.
