The construction industry is linked to roughly 40% of the world’s energy consumption, a large portion of which can be attributed to the manufacturing and transportation of materials. To effectively mitigate the enormous energy expenditure, carbon neutral construction must take into account a broad swathe of factors that go beyond the sourcing of local materials, including local labor hire to reduce travel miles, transport and logistics, and waste minimization.
